Everybody dreams of a perfect gleaming white smile. Sometimes, all the efforts you take do not bear expected fruits. Teeth tend to lose their natural color over time. That can be due to various factors like consumption of certain foods, medications, age, trauma, and so on.
Teeth whitening is one of the most popular dental procedures. There are a plethora of options available for teeth whitening. Some of them are at-home teeth whitening kits or teeth whitening strips like Crest White Strips, Snow teeth whitening kit, Arc teeth whitening kit and teeth whitening strips, Lumeeno Teeth Whitening, and Aura Glow teeth whitening. Many companies market their toothpaste as “teeth whitening pastes” as well. There are also many teeth whitening “diy” tips available online which include using charcoal or coconut oil for teeth whitening. However, teeth whitening when done at a dentist’s clinic can show fabulous results.
Teeth whitening is a method that helps counter the dullness of the teeth. It is beneficial in multiple ways. It not only helps in making the smile brighter but also aids in reducing plaque build-up and chances of gum disease. This helps in reducing and preventing any tooth-related issues or gum diseases that often accompany age. After all, prevention is definitely better than cure. Teeth whitening is beneficial as it induces the urge to have better oral hygiene practices as well.
Dr. Orfaly gave me the smile that I always wanted! After years of crooked teeth that were a dull color I now have straight, white, teeth that look completely natural thanks to the amazing skills of Dr. Orfaly. I can't stop smiling!!!!! Thank you!
Our family of 5 has been going to this team for 20+ years. Cheryl is a gem and she deserves to be mentioned first. She'll do whatever it takes to help you get the appointment you need (like when your child comes home unexpectedly from college and needs a dental appointment). Dr. Orfaly is my hero as he saved my son's front tooth that was knocked out and dangling from a wayward elbow at the last game of the soccer season. Dr. Fisher's love of Blondie cannot be matched and he's in charge of the music. Feel free to sing along if you are able. Plus he's entertaining in many other ways - ask him to show you his before and after teeth whitening demonstration. Love chatting away (as best you can when your teeth are being cleaned) with Amy and Kathy, the dental hygienists. You'll enjoy being a patient at this dental practice.
In 1981 I was a new RN at MGH Surgical ICU. New to Boston, I approached a colleague for a recommendation for a dentist. Dr. Fisher came highly regarded.I liked him immediately and have continued with him very happily, enjoying not only the expertise of his work but the comfort of his demeanor and office background music. Joy managed the office and when I was much younger, I remembered how she helped me to relax when I was worried about a bridge payment. In 2005 Dr. Orfaly joined the growing practice and Dr. Fisher asked me if I would consider accepting him as my new dentist. Sure! I even got a great deal on whitening when he welcomed me into his practice. He checks in with me as he goes along with his work, waits for the local to take full effect and then proceeds with patience. I have always been absolutely satisfied with the outcomes he and his assistant Mirela provide. Many folks are nervous about going to the dentist. My dental hygenist has been Kathy for most of my ongoing regular dental healthcare. We have a friendship now and how she can understand my conversation with my mouth open is beyond me, but we laugh and laugh and have even shared a few tears. Mayreni is a new hygenist. She has arrived just in time for the new office decor. She is highly professional as is everyone here and I found her work to also be excellent.Cheryl is the secretary and she coordinates your schedule with your visits. I always get a timely reminder by phone. The overall atmosphere is professionally relaxed, calm and personable. After 37 years with this great dental practice, I continue to have the best smile around!Continued success to the Fisher and Orfaly Dental practice!
Dr. George Orfaly, trusted family dentist of Fisher & Orfaly Dental, Salem, MA, has listed a few reasons that cause discoloration:
Frequent consumption of tea, coffee, red wine.
Smoking cigarettes and chewing tobacco.
A lot of consumption of fluorides during childhood.
Aging also contributes to discoloration. With age, the enamel layer becomes thin, gradually exposing the dentin layer beneath. Dentin is darker in color than the enamel
If your teeth were damaged due to face injury, discoloration can happen. Teeth change their color by laying down more dentin to control the damage.
Any strong medications or treatments like chemotherapy can also contribute to discoloration.
Teeth discoloration is an incredibly common issue, and so there are hundreds of people online every day trying to find the best teeth whitening method. “Teeth whitening how to” and “teeth whitening near me” are very common search terms, along with “teeth whitening dentist.” As mentioned above, there are at least dozens of different methods of teeth whitening at home. In the past few years, there has been a huge increase in the number of teeth whitening kits and teeth whitening strips in the market. Products like Crest White Strips, Snow Teeth Whitening, Aura Glow Teeth Whitening, and Zimba Teeth Whitening are commonly used. Teeth whitening paste is also a very common marketing ploy. Nowadays, there are even at-home teeth whitening pens like the Moon teeth whitening pen. These products do work to an extent, but there is always a possibility of overusing a product or using it ineffectively.
There are also several teeth whitening diy or do-it-yourself techniques online. The most famous methods are using hydrogen peroxide for teeth whitening or baking soda for teeth whitening. Some people also use charcoal, coconut oil, and other commonly available household products. Some of these “teeth whitening naturally” tips and tricks may work, but some may not. And even the techniques that do work will only work to a certain degree and the effects won’t last long. Also, while using such methods there is always the risk of making mistakes and accidentally causing damage to the teeth or other side effects. In particular, if one is not cautious while using hydrogen peroxide for teeth whitening, one can cause significant damage to the protective enamel of the teeth. Fixing this damage can be quite expensive. That is why the safest and best teeth whitening method is professional teeth whitening.
Teeth whitening by a dentist is more thorough and ensures evenly whitened teeth compared to most at-home teeth whitening treatments. Professional teeth whitening can remove even the most stubborn stains, while most at-home teeth whitening treatments can only remove the lighter stains. Professional teeth whitening is safer and more reliable than at-home treatments. Before whitening your teeth, the dentist will examine your mouth to ensure that there are no issues like failed fillings or exposed roots that could be worsened by the teeth whitening procedure. Professional teeth whitening is faster and more long-lasting as well. Most at-home teeth whitening treatments need to be done over and over again to see any results, but that is not the case with professional teeth whitening. At a dental clinic, most teeth whitening methods like Zoom Teeth Whitening or Laser Teeth Whitening take only 30 to 90 minutes, but they last for months.
We all want to get that dazzling smile. But before getting the treatment you must make sure if you are suitable for receiving the treatment. Dr. Orfaly of Fisher & Orfaly Dental, Salem, MA, advises that anyone can be a good candidate for teeth whitening except:
People with crowns on their teeth.
Patients with dental fillings cannot undergo teeth whitening, because the treatment can whiten their natural teeth leaving the fillings with their original color. This will result in your teeth having different colors.
People who have had exposure to tetracycline antibiotics during early childhood, while the teeth are still developing (before 8 years of age).
As this treatment is a cosmetic procedure, it is not advisable for pregnant ladies.
Dr. Orfaly makes sure to give the right advice and whether or not one must undergo the treatment.
The teeth whitening service at Fisher & Orfaly Dental in Salem, MA, is customized for you, as opposed to over-the-counter teeth whitening kits and teeth whitening strips, which are one size fits all. Along with normal dental teeth whitening methods including strong teeth whitening gel and laser light, at Fisher & Orfaly Dental, Salem, MA, we also use custom-made dental teeth whitening trays. The dental teeth whitening trays are made by taking impressions of your teeth and then dental stone models are made from those impressions. They are then placed on a custom-forming vacuum machine. This machine will fabricate the dental teeth whitening trays.
You will come back for a second appointment to receive the dental whitening trays and the prescription strength whitening gel.
The trays are typically worn for an hour a day. The dentist has found that you will reach your maximum whitening level after 2 to 3 weeks.
Dr. George Orfaly, trusted family dentist of Fisher & Orfaly Dental, Salem, MA, has written a blog where he describes in detail the procedure of teeth whitening and the benefits of the treatment.
There is no special care to be taken after the treatment. However, it is advisable to avoid brushing teeth at least a few hours after the treatment. However, after that, one must regularly brush and floss teeth for maintaining oral hygiene.
Teeth whitening cost can be financed using a CareCredit credit card. Read more about insurance and payment plans.
As a person with anxiety of going to any doctors or dentists it took me a while to find the right dentist for me. Without a question I have found the right place. Not only does Dr.Ofaly have a great personality and is just a cool person in general but as a dentist you literally couldn’t find one that is as gentle and patient as him. He knows of my issues and couldn’t be more understanding. Also every procedure I have had their has been painless and so smooth. If your looking for a new dentist please trust me and just give him a try and I promise like me you will become a longtime patient. You really couldn’t be in better hands!
My wife and I have been going to Fisher & Orfaly for more than 20 years. Their focus is a dental experience based in personalized, professional care. From cleanings to crowns, we’ve had it all. They always provide a pleasant atmosphere and pain-free service. Happy to report that my son recently started as a second generation patient. To Dr. Orfaly and his team I say keep up the great work.
My experience at Dr Fisher and Orfaly’s office has been the same since day one ,ten years ago when urged from my mom to transfer over to the Hawthorne Blvd office.Wonderful! Truly. From the time you walk in, the atmosphere is like a small community of people you have come to know. Amy who has been my dental hygienist for years now makes my time enjoyable with a new topic of conversation to cover every time.Dr. Orfaly has handled my dental care for sometime now , from many, to all procedures, I couldn’t be happier. Yet more than just wanting to get it right with my teeth, he wants to know how you are, how your mom is ,and of course your favorite sports teams . Again, it’s a community I would recommend to any and all .Tom D
I have had great results with Dr. Orfaly. He is a real pro - a great communicator, practical and bright. His staff is friendly, his hygienists do a great job and his appointments run on time.
Our family has gotten our dental care (routine and otherwise) from Fisher & Orfaly for over 20 years. They have, without exception, provided compassionate, clearly explained, patient-centered, top-quality dental services and I recommend them without reservation. One of my adult children even went to them for an evaluation of some complicated work they had done elsewhere (out of state). I especially appreciate the measures their practice took during the pandemic — including installing hospital-grade air filtration — to maximize safety for patients and staff.
Professional practice with friendly staff.
Who likes to go to the dentist? Fear no more. Dr. Orfaly and his staff provide an environment of ease and professionalism that relieve the jitters that so many feel during visits to the dentist. Whether a routine check up or more complex procedure, our experiences have been most positive.
Best care ever. Always caring and gentle. Been going for years would highly recommend.
I have been a patient at Dr. Orfali’s for over 20 years. He has always been professional and never performs anything that is not needed. I’ve had a couple of crowns and he has done a great job. My adult son was told by a dentist that he had about $5000 worth of work to be done on his mouth. Dr. Orfali reviewed his x-rays and he did not need any work. I would trust Dr. Orfali with any of your dental needs. He will always be truthful.
Dr. Orfaly is a fantastic dentist. He is professional, caring, and responsive. I appreciate him squeezing me in on short notice and following up to check on me after-hours. The technicians are great, too. I highly recommend his practice.
