At Fisher & Orfaly Dental, Salem, MA, we construct customized mouthguards to protect your teeth from damage and injuries.
As a person with anxiety of going to any doctors or dentists it took me a while to find the right dentist for me. Without a question I have found the right place. Not only does Dr.Ofaly have a great personality and is just a cool person in general but as a dentist you literally couldn’t find one that is as gentle and patient as him. He knows of my issues and couldn’t be more understanding. Also every procedure I have had their has been painless and so smooth. If your looking for a new dentist please trust me and just give him a try and I promise like me you will become a longtime patient. You really couldn’t be in better hands!
My wife and I have been going to Fisher & Orfaly for more than 20 years. Their focus is a dental experience based in personalized, professional care. From cleanings to crowns, we’ve had it all. They always provide a pleasant atmosphere and pain-free service. Happy to report that my son recently started as a second generation patient. To Dr. Orfaly and his team I say keep up the great work.
My experience at Dr Fisher and Orfaly’s office has been the same since day one ,ten years ago when urged from my mom to transfer over to the Hawthorne Blvd office.Wonderful! Truly. From the time you walk in, the atmosphere is like a small community of people you have come to know. Amy who has been my dental hygienist for years now makes my time enjoyable with a new topic of conversation to cover every time.Dr. Orfaly has handled my dental care for sometime now , from many, to all procedures, I couldn’t be happier. Yet more than just wanting to get it right with my teeth, he wants to know how you are, how your mom is ,and of course your favorite sports teams . Again, it’s a community I would recommend to any and all .Tom D
I have had great results with Dr. Orfaly. He is a real pro - a great communicator, practical and bright. His staff is friendly, his hygienists do a great job and his appointments run on time.
Our family has gotten our dental care (routine and otherwise) from Fisher & Orfaly for over 20 years. They have, without exception, provided compassionate, clearly explained, patient-centered, top-quality dental services and I recommend them without reservation. One of my adult children even went to them for an evaluation of some complicated work they had done elsewhere (out of state). I especially appreciate the measures their practice took during the pandemic — including installing hospital-grade air filtration — to maximize safety for patients and staff.
Professional practice with friendly staff.
Who likes to go to the dentist? Fear no more. Dr. Orfaly and his staff provide an environment of ease and professionalism that relieve the jitters that so many feel during visits to the dentist. Whether a routine check up or more complex procedure, our experiences have been most positive.
Best care ever. Always caring and gentle. Been going for years would highly recommend.
I have been a patient at Dr. Orfali’s for over 20 years. He has always been professional and never performs anything that is not needed. I’ve had a couple of crowns and he has done a great job. My adult son was told by a dentist that he had about $5000 worth of work to be done on his mouth. Dr. Orfali reviewed his x-rays and he did not need any work. I would trust Dr. Orfali with any of your dental needs. He will always be truthful.
Dr. Orfaly is a fantastic dentist. He is professional, caring, and responsive. I appreciate him squeezing me in on short notice and following up to check on me after-hours. The technicians are great, too. I highly recommend his practice.
Mouthguards are devices used to protect your teeth from damage while you sleep or play sports. Sports guards, customized mouth guards, and mouth protectors are different names for the same thing: a device worn over your teeth that protects them from blows to the face and head. Customized mouthguards are an important piece of athletic equipment for anyone participating in a sport that involves falls, body contact, or flying equipment. This includes football, basketball, baseball, soccer, hockey, skateboarding, gymnastics, mountain biking — any activity that might result in an injury to the mouth.
Mouth guards typically cover the upper teeth and are designed to protect against broken teeth, cut lips, and other damage to your mouth. If you wear braces or other fixed dental appliances (such as a bridge) on your lower jaw, your dentist may suggest a mouth protector for these teeth as well. They are also used to prevent teeth grinding and clenching of the jaw. Depending on the need, there are three types of mouth guards:
Stock Mouth guards: They are ready-to-wear devices available at any sports good stores or departmental stores. However, they cannot be a proper fit. They are bulky, making breathing and talking difficult.
Boil-and-bite mouth guards: They are available at sport good stores and are of a better fit than stock mouth guards. These are made up of thermoplastic material. It is placed in warm water to soften and then fit into the mouth using fingers and tongue pressure.
Customized mouth guards: Customized mouthguards are made at the dentist’s office. They are made after taking impressions and fit in the mouth well.
An ideal mouth guard fulfills the following conditions to work effectively
be comfortable yet tight-fitting
allow normal breathing and swallowing
allow normal speech
not cause gagging
be odorless and tasteless
be thick enough to resist the impact
Prevent Tooth Damage: Customized mouthguards protect your teeth from injuries and damage to your teeth during any sports. Tooth damage can lead to getting complex dental treatment.
Cushions any impact on face: Customized mouthguards cushion any blow to the face and teeth. Thus, reducing the risk of broken and damaged teeth.
Customized mouthguards protect lips, tongue, and inner lining of the cheeks.
Customized mouthguards prevent damage to bridges and any orthodontic appliances.
While the injuries to teeth are expensive to treat, Customized mouthguards are less expensive compared to them.
At Fisher & Orfaly Dental in Salem, MA, customized mouthguards are individually designed and made in our office. Not surprisingly, they are likely to provide the most comfortable fit and best protection. Dr. Orfaly of Fisher & Orfaly Dental in Salem, MA, takes an impression of your teeth and then constructs the mouth guard over a model of them. Because they fit and feel better, most athletes prefer customized mouth guards. While doing so, Dr. Orfaly and his team compassionately attend to every query that you have related to mouth guards.
You are asked to wear the newly made mouthguard to check if it fits in well. If any changes are needed, they are made and the customized mouth guards are handed over to you.
Customized mouthguards are used to prevent sports injuries.
If you happen to play any sports like football, basketball, hockey (both field and ice hockey), you are eligible to get customized mouthguards regardless of your age.
If you participate in non-contact sports like gymnastics, mountain biking, skateboarding, you can get your set of customized mouthguards.
Some dental insurances cover partial or the entire cost of customized mouthguards crafted by dental professionals. Since health insurance policies keep changing, it is always advisable to check with the insurance companies.
Using mouth guards comes with a responsibility. Dr. Orfaly and his team in Fisher & Orfaly Dental, Salem, MA, advise certain guidelines to follow to look for the hygiene of the mouth guards you use:
Make sure to rinse your mouth guard with water or mouth rinse before and after using the mouth guard.
It can be stored in a perforated case.
Check your mouth guards frequently for any wear and tear. If you find any cracks on the guard, or it no longer fits you well, make sure to replace it.
