Why Porcelain Veneers Are Better Than Removable Veneers

Dental veneers are thin covers that adhere to your teeth and improve their appearance. Dental veneers are one of the most popular cosmetic dental treatments today. They can be used to correct a variety of dental problems, including:

  • Chipped teeth or cracked teeth
  • Crooked teeth or misshapen teeth
  • Discolored teeth
  • Misaligned teeth
  • Uneven teeth
  • Gaps between teeth

If someone has a single chipped tooth, they may only get one veneer. However, to create a perfectly even, symmetrical smile using veneers, many people will need to get six or more veneers.

There are many different types of veneers, but the most common dental veneers are:

  • Porcelain Veneers
  • Removable Veneers
  • Composite Veneers
  • Lumineers Veneers

Of the four, removable veneers and porcelain veneers are the most popular. Each type has its advantages and disadvantages. When you select dental veneers for your dental restoration, you will be investing in your beautiful smile and overall oral health. That is why it is important to select dental veneers that will suit your unique case.

What Are Removable Veneers?

Removable veneers are also called snap-on veneers or temporary veneers. There are two types of removable veneers: instant veneers and custom-made veneers.

Instant Veneers: Instant veneers are the cheapest and least durable type of veneers. These snap-on veneers are prefabricated by companies in a standardized shape without considering an individual’s unique teeth or bite.

Custom-Made Veneers: Custom-made snap-on veneers (also called clip-on veneers) are a recent popular trend in cosmetic dentistry. They are high-quality removable veneers. First, the impression of your teeth is created by the dentist. Next, the impression is sent to the dental lab. The dental lab technicians make a custom-fit set for you, which then gets sent to you.

I could not be any more fortunate and grateful for Dr. George Orfaly accepting me recently as a new patient! I switched over from my previous provider in a nearby community after receiving subpar care and at risk of losing two teeth. He and the entire team at Fisher & Orfaly Dental have made my transition a smooth and comfortable one, setting me at ease and swiftly on the path to a promising prognosis! I also know that both Dr. Orfaly and Dr. Fisher care a great deal about the community beyond the walls of their practice, too, both quite supportive of local nonprofit and charitable efforts. This all makes me feel wonderful about being a patient, one of the best decisions I've ever made. You and your family should consider switching to Fisher & Orfaly!

Needed a new dentist in Salem, picked Dr. Orfaly by location. I met him before agreeing to my first appointment, and so far, have been very happy. I'm a curious sob, and credit Dr Orfaly for being patient with my atmospheric river of questions. He knows how to relate to patients, and seems to be on top of his game. Highly recommend.

What Are The Pros & Cons Of Removable Veneers?

Here are the pros & cons of removable veneers or snap-on veneers:

Pros:

  • Removable veneers or snap-on veneers are convenient. They can be taken out whenever you wish.
  • The cost of removable veneers is less than the cost of porcelain veneers.
  • There is no need to see a dentist for instant veneers. For custom-made snap-on veneers, only one dentist appointment is required.

Cons:

  • Removable veneers or snap-on veneers are not as durable or long-lasting as porcelain veneers.
  • Snap-on veneers do not look as natural as porcelain veneers.
  • Temporary veneers like snap-on veneers are prone to staining and are at risk of plaque buildup.

What Are Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers are the most popular type of dental veneers. Porcelain is the most commonly used material for dental veneers because it has unique properties that make it ideal for use as permanent veneers.

What Are The Pros & Cons Of Porcelain Veneers?

Here are the pros & cons of porcelain veneers:

Pros:

  • Porcelain veneers are one of the most durable dental veneers. With good dental care, they can last for many years.
  • Porcelain veneers can be made to look like your natural tooth enamel. So porcelain veneers can mimic the appearance of your natural teeth.
  • Porcelain is stain-resistant, so your teeth will look bright and white for a long time.

Cons:

  • Porcelain veneers are permanent veneers and require tooth preparation before placement.
  • The cost of porcelain veneers is more than the cost of removable veneers.
  • The procedure for getting porcelain veneers requires at least two appointments with the dentist: one to prepare the teeth and take an impression, the second to place the porcelain veneers.

Both removable veneers and porcelain veneers have their pros and cons. While deciding which type of dental veneer is most suitable for your dental restoration needs, keep in mind that removable veneers are a temporary solution and will need to be replaced after some time. On the other hand, the durability and stain-resistant properties of porcelain make porcelain veneers an excellent solution for anyone looking to improve their smile. The pros of porcelain veneers make them a much better long-term option than removable veneers.

At Fisher & Orfaly Dental Clinic, Salem, Massachusetts, we offer porcelain veneers as one of our cosmetic dentistry treatments. You can even get porcelain veneers as part of an overall smile makeover treatment. To learn more, book an appointment with Dr. George Orfaly today!

I am someone who has been terrified of the Dentist from a very young age, but after seeing Dr. Orfaly and his team over the past couple of months I have 100% gotten over my fears. I have never felt more comfortable and taken care of by the staff. Everyone is so nice and down to earth they make you feel welcome! Dr. Orfaly even came in on a day they were closed because I was having extreme tooth pain, and he totally fixed the problem, I will never forget that. I’m so happy I decided to go to Fischer & Orfaly, best decision I’ve ever made!

Dr Orfaly is the best dentist around! I have alot of anxiety around going to the dentist & Dr Orfaly always makes sure to check in to see how I'm doing & is so nice. If a referral is needed to a specialist, he makes the call for you & gets you an appt quickly (mine was even the same day) I love how they book you with the same dental hygienist for all cleanings.. Adds another level of comfort... Shoutout to mine, Kathy!! 😊

After many years of neglecting my my teeth due to fear of the dentist my dental issues got bad enough that I had no choice but to adress them. I randomly selected Fisher & Orfaly and am very glad that I did. Dr Orfaly did a great job while making sure I was as comfortable as possible. After completing the initial, extensive repairs my mouth looks and feels great. In the 10 years since I first visited I had had no new major work needed. Even better, I can walk into the office without that sense of dread that is familiar to so many people.
